Faiza Saeed is the first artist in Bahrain to focus on the craft of mosaic design. When she was younger, Faiza was constantly experimenting with various art forms until she discovered mosaic art while visiting museums in Britain, Italy and Spain. Her love for mosaic deepened when she met and learned from legendary British mosaic artist Emma Biggs in London. Finding her passion in mosaic made her realize that a person doesn’t have to be an excellent painter or illustrator to be an artist.
On Thursday the 17th of July the beauty and authenticity of Faiza’s work was celebrated at Enma mall for her launch at Moods, being the first local designer to be stocked there. Selected aesthetic pieces were presented with a twist as they will be mixed and matched with the furniture at the store. The beauty of this collaboration is highlighted as Moods itself is a local enterprise that has taken the initiative to embrace other local businesses.
Faiza’s mission is to spread the art of mosaics in Bahrain. She wants to beautify her native Bahrain by adding pops of color with mosaics everywhere. In addition, mosaics are the most durable art form because they can withstand Bahrain’s hot summer months, as well as wind and rain in the winter months. Faiza continues to experiment with mosaics, first on tables and wall pieces, as well as coffee tables and pots. Faiza continues to sell her work in markets, at exhibitions, and conducts weekly classes for beginners.

Vapiano, the distinctive restaurant experience that has been sweeping through the GCC has finally opened in Kuwait at The Avenues Mall. It promises to bring its guests a special restaurant experience through its first ever branch in the country. Defining the future of “fresh casual dining”, this european chain has been praised by critics for its delicious menu, interactive atmosphere and innovative restaurant technology.
Vapiano is an established restaurant concept with more than 70 worldwide locations in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Asia with several additional international locations currently in development. This will be the group‘s fourth venture in the GCC following, conveniently located on the first floor of The Avenues Mall.
On Wednesday, June 11, the highly anticipated grand opening of Vapiano Kuwait was a highlight at the Avenues Mall. The event was hosted by Ascia AFK, one of Kuwait’s most prominent and influential Kuwaiti bloggers, with a huge fan base that extends throughout the GCC region. More than the opportunity to mingle with their favorite blogger, guests also enjoyed a synchronized pizza flipping show and the music of DJ Kade. The opening guaranteed an evening of delicious food and entertainment.
The name Vapiano comes from the Italian expression Chi va piano va sano e va lontano, literally translated to mean “One who takes life easy and relaxed, lives healthier and longer.” Through their innovative spin on the age-old Mediterranean tradition of group cooking, Vapiano has been one of the most influential restaurant concepts in the region, winning awards such as the 2013 “Best Newcomer” by Timeout Restaurant Awards, and was also placed in the 2013 “Favorite In Mall Restaurant” by Citibank Fact Dining Awards.
Every meal is made-to-order and created right in front of the guests’ eyes, allowing for the ultimate interactive experience; guests can express personal preferences throughout the preparation of their meal. Also, customers can customize made-to-order creations, which include fresh homemade pasta, fire roasted pizzas and gourmet salads.
Once guests receive their food, coffee or dessert, Vapiano invites guests to unwind in its spacious seating area beneath an 85-year old olive tree, and enjoy the soothing décor which include contemporary furnishings made from imported German oak typically used on yachts and villas, natural stone, soft earth-toned leather, and a green wall of herbs imported from Holland.

Hailing from Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, Gemini T-shirts is a unique illustrated and hand painted t-shirt line inspired by Arabic and khaleeji pop culture. Described as “moving paintings, made with passion” Gemini T-shirts is the brainchild of scientist-turned-artist Walaa Fadhel.
Walaa came up with the idea for Gemini T-shirts during her first year of university when she found herself frustrated at the lack of originality in young girls clothing choices – it seemed everyone was wearing the same t-shirts from generic popular brands.
Inspired to innovate, Walaa started designing her own t-shirts in 2010. She started the project because of her faith in the importance of expressing one’s self. Later on Walaa moved on designing for friends and colleagues, eventually launching Gemini T-shirts as a full-fledged business in 2012.
