MANAMA (Sitra) – April 27th 2014: The Bahrain Yacht Club (BYC) was thrilled to hold it’s annual Spring Regatta last Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th of April.
The highly anticipated event was a hit with the local sailing community as well as boating and water sports enthusiasts from all across Bahrain, with over 300 visitors across both days of both members and non-members who were welcome to join in the fun for a small guest fee.
Families enjoyed a fantastic day out with a variety of activities including kayaking in the lagoon, a bouncing castle and outdoor games including balloon popping, ring toss and a sandcastle building competition for children. A DJ and a live band will kept guests entertained throughout the day, and a barbeque was also available on the beach, in the spirit of the perfect outdoor weather this time of year.
The annual event also included a competition where sailors will competed for the title of “Spring Regatta Champion”. This year’s regatta consisted of five races over the course of the day: three adult races and two junior races. The adult races will comprised Cruisers Yachts, Multi hulls and dinghies while the junior races only included dinghies.
The weather conditions of day one were moderate with the wind at 10 – 15 knots, which lead to some interesting racing across all fleets. Later in the day the wind dropped making conditions very tactical with a strong tidal flow in the afternoon! The waters were fierce with a total of 53 boats and 92 competitors in total.
Each category in each race division was awarded for their efforts with a ‘placed’ trophy or medal. Winners were also be presented a token as a keepsake of the competition. The results of the races were presented during an awards ceremony on Saturday afternoon. The results are as follows:

Bahrain Flour Mills has launched a new corporate identity and product branding to support its goal of being a market leader preserving national food security for Bahrain. The company will now operate as “Al-Matahin” as it takes a step forward to becoming a regionally recognized brand. The company unveiled its new corporate identity during their Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday, March 26th at Kempinski Hotel.
“There were a number of compelling reasons to rebrand Bahrain Flour Mills,” commented Mohammed Nass, Managing Director. “We felt the name “Bahrain Flour Mills” was tiresome, long and not aligned with our current ideology or vision for the future. Also, we want to make sure our company name is simple, easy to remember and distinguished from the names of our regional competitors. Now is an ideal time to transition to a new company name, having just taken on the decision to invest an amount of BD 12 million for the acquisition, installing and commissioning of a new replacement flourmill with a total capacity of 600 tons per day in addition to the related service, operational and storage facilities. ”
Bahrain Flour Mills were looking to reposition their public image with a fresh, dynamic and innovative look and feel. This was particularly pertinent in terms of revamping the existing product line.
“In keeping with the new cooking and health conscious trend that has sparked up in recent years, a new and younger demographic is now shopping for our products. Al-Matahin is an Arabic name, which simply means “Flour Mills” – it was chosen for its simplicity and recognition in the local market (as it is the name that is colloquially used to refer to Bahrain Flour Mills).
“Previously we did not have a brand – we had a ‘logo’, which was a revamp of the old logo developed some 30 years back. I cannot unify my message to the public on a social level with just a logo. A rebrand will allow consumers to know where their bread comes from, and truly connect with our brand.”

The Bahrain Yacht Club has announced the dates for it’s most highly anticipated event of the year, the Spring Regatta. The Regatta, which promises to unite members of the sailing community as well as the boating and water sports enthusiasts from all around the island will be held on Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th of April.

Obai & Hill are proud to announce that Ma’akum, a 16-member coalition of Bahraini business leaders running in the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) board elections in the 28th session, have walked away with a sweeping victory following the elections which took place on the 15th of February 2014. Ma’akum, headed by renowned businessman Khalid Almoayed, landed 13 seats to make up more than half of the board, securing the most votes with 3,128.
“It’s fabulous news,” said Mr. Almoayed.
“I was confident of victory, but I don’t want to sound too offensive to other challengers. The election went very smoothly and I appreciate the work that everybody put in. Our group will now work very hard for the BCCI and the business community.”
A full PR and social media campaign was delivered by Obai & Hill for the Ma’akum 2014 campaign. Services delivered included branding and identity design, artwork design for all marketing material and promotional booklets/flyers, as well as event management and coordination. From a PR perspective, we handled the day-to-day press management as well as social media management, press releases and distribution.
